Could Christoph Freund kick start the Red Bullification of Bayern Munich?
Bayern Munich have hired Red Bull Salzburg sporting director Christoph Freund. A move that could fundamentally change the way the Munich club conducts its business.
It is a signing that could lead to a monumental shift in the way Bayern Munich conduct their transfer business. On Tuesday, the club announced that they had signed Red Bull Salzburg’s sporting director Christoph Freund as Hasan Salihamidzic’s replacement, effective September 1.
Freund now makes the very short journey across the Austrian-Bavarian border from Salzburg to Munich. In fact, the 46-year-old might not even have to move but instead could stay in Austria and commute. But while the move from Salzburg to Munich—two cities that are historically closely tied through the salt trade—is a short one. Fundamentally, Freund joining Bayern could lead to a foundational shift in how transfer business will be conducted at the Säbener Straße.
