Will Jürgen Klopp turn RB Leipzig into a title contender?
Last week Jürgen Klopp made the shock announcement that he was going to join Red Bull. But how will that impact RB Leipzig? Gegenpressing went to Leipzig to find out.
It has been a couple of weeks since it was announced that Jürgen Klopp will join Red Bull as the company's head of global soccer on Jan. 1, 2025. Not surprisingly, the announcement was followed up with heavy criticism by some elements of the German fan scene.
In his capacity, Klopp won’t just be in charge of Leipzig but also Brazilian club Red Bull Bragantino and the New York Red Bulls. Red Bull also acts as a sponsor at Red Bull Salzburg, Leeds United, and potentially soon at Paris FC. At those clubs, Klopp won’t officially have any input. The same can’t be said about Japanese club Omiya Ardjia, where Red Bull is in the final stages of a takeover process.
In other words, RB Leipzig will be just a part of Klopp’s future role. But with the Bundesliga club at the very top of the Red Bull pyramid, there is no doubt that all decisions made within the global football empire are ultimately supposed to benefit RB Leipzig.
With that in mind, how could Klopp impact Leipzig once his contract kicks in? Gegenpressing spent some time in Leipzig this week to find out and the general sense in and around the club has been that Klopp could be the final puzzle piece to lift the Bundesliga club to become a regular title contender.
