Why Borussia Dortmund deserve to win the Bundesliga

Dortmund have been the most dominant team in Germany since Sébastien Haller has returned, and would be a deserved champion should they win the title on Saturday.

asked whether Dortmund deserved to win the Bundesliga. Stefan wrote his article following Dortmund’s 1-1 draw against VfL Bochum, a game in which the Black and Yellows were denied a clear penalty but also deservedly dropped two points. That result also seemed to mark yet another point in which Dortmund threw away a massive title chance, handing the initiative back to a very vulnerable Bayern Munich side. 

Three weeks later, Dortmund are back on top after Bayern’s 60-minute meltdown on matchday 33 against RB Leipzig. The Black and Yellows will face Mainz at home on Saturday and are two points ahead of Bayern. On the verge of winning their ninth title, today I will make the argument that Dortmund would not only be a deserved winner but also one that has dominated the league in 2023. 

That last point might surprise some that have followed the club over the entire season. But Borussia Dortmund have been impressive in 2023. Despite that shocking 3-3 draw against Stuttgart and the inability to score a second against Bochum, Dortmund have been by far the best team in the Bundesliga since the World Cup.
