Troubled Haller sums up Dortmund's tricky start to the season
Edin Terzic's side may have picked up all three points against Freiburg but it was another poor performance from a team that don't seem to know what they're doing on the pitch.
Borussia Dortmund picked up an impressive 4-2 victory over Freiburg on Saturday. It was, by no means, a professional performance. Nor was it a game that Edin Terzic’s side can even lay claim to controlling for any notable period of the 90 minutes. But by hook or by crook, the visiting side somehow managed to dig deep and bag two late goals to pick up the points. And following three horrid performances and two dreadful results prior to matchday four, there’s little doubt that fans of the club let out a collective sigh of relief when the full time whistle went.
Indeed, following a demoralising start to the new Bundesliga season, Terzic and his side desperately needed a result at the Mooswaldstadion. Groans from the yellow wall have been growing louder with every passing week and the young head coach knows fine well that he’s only as good as his last result. As such, three points on Saturday were vital. Even if the performance left plenty to be desired. As Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl put it after the game: “It’s not all good, but it’s not all bad either.”
However, while fans of the club would be forgiven for accentuating the positives at this moment in time, there was one particularly poor performance on show in the black and yellow of Dortmund that simply can’t be ignored. For all the heroics on show, one star was particularly abhorrent. I’m of course talking about Sébastien Haller, who offered next to nothing up front. And it wasn’t for the first time this season.
