The dawn of a new era? Investor Hasan Ismaik leaves 1860 Munich
Hasan Ismaik has sold his 60% stake in 1860 Munich to a Swiss family holding. But what happens next at Munich's other club? We break it all down.
It has been a spring and summer of excellent news for 1860 Munich fans. A brief timeline: On April 17, Hasan Ismaik announced that he was finally willing to sell his shares in the club. Then, four days later, 1860 product Kevin Volland announced that he would be returning to the club this summer. On May 12, Hertha Berlin striker also announced his return to Munich.
The two, Niederlechner and Volland, weren’t the only prominent signings to arrive at 1860 this summer. Norwegian national team striker Sigurd Haugen arrived from Aarhus, and goalkeeper Thomas Dähne joined from relegated Bundesliga side Holstein Kiel. The significant investments in the squad raised some eyebrows in Munich. Where was the money coming from?
