The case for Toni Kroos to return to the German national team
There has been a long debate in German football on whether Toni Kroos should be nominated for the March friendlies. The Real Madrid star is in top form and could help the team ahead of Euro 2024.
We are still two months away from Germany taking on France in a friendly at the end of March. Yet that game is already a hot topic in Germany, as the nation debates whether Julian Nagelsmann will call up Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos. The very same Kroos who ended his national team career following Germany’s round of 16 exit against England at Euro 2020.
“I think, for the most part, they are missing confidence, and they have too few people who can carry the team,” Kroos said in the Podcast Baywatch Berlin after Germany’s 2-0 defeat to Colombia. “And, as a result, it is them just kicking the ball around without showing any form of resistance. With that in mind, it will be challenging at the Euros at home next summer.”
Kroos loves podcasts. The Real Madrid midfielder often speaks his mind in his podcast Einfach mal Luppen, which he runs with his brother Felix—more on this later. In those podcasts, you will get Kroos unfiltered, speaking his mind and often polarizing the German public.
