Set to lose out on Florian Wirtz? Five alternatives Bayern Munich should target instead
With reports indicating that Bayern Munich might lose out on Florian Wirtz after all, Gegenpressing has taken a look at five potential alternatives.
You can always tell when it is panic station at the Säbener Straße when Bild fires out Bayern Munich news stories by the minute. This could be perfectly observed this week after Florian Wirtz travelled to England to visit Liverpool. A visit that comes off the back of stories emerging that Manchester City are now willing to meet Bayer Leverkusen’s €150 million demand for the Germany star.
As the Bild stories reflect, the Wirtz visit to England got the decision-makers at Bayern into a frenzy. “Florian Wirtz's camp did indeed hold a meeting with Liverpool officials yesterday,” a Bild report by Bayern’s chief propagandist Christian Falk stated. “Bayern bosses are certain that Wirtz will keep his promise of a move to Munich.” You can practically see the letters scream at you in typical Bild fashion.
Regarding Bild, take it all with a grain of salt. Falk and Co. reports what Bayern wants them to report. In that regard, Bild isn’t anything more than the club’s official propaganda arm. Indeed, Gegenpressing can confirm more measured reports out of England. Yes, Wirtz met with Liverpool. Yes, Man City are interested in Wirtz. Also, Real Madrid are certainly still looming in the background. It is also true that Wirtz could stay in Leverkusen.
Of course, there is a chance Wirtz and his family still opt to join the Rekordmeister. However, there is also a very realistic scenario: Wirtz moves abroad this summer or next summer after the 2026 World Cup in the United States. So, realistically, Bayern should now plan for alternatives if Wirtz opts for a different path. With that in mind, Gegenpressing has looked at five viable alternatives Bayern Munich should target right now instead of Wirtz.
