Sacking Daniel Farke would be a big mistake for Gladbach
The club may be exactly where they were last season in the Bundesliga table, but replacing the manager would ruin all the good work that has gone on behind closed doors.
After waiting all weekend for Borussia Mönchengladbach sporting director Roland Virkus to say something, the club’s head coach Daniel Farke may have wished his boss had just said nothing at all.
Following an unquestionably embarrassing 5-2 defeat to Borussia Dortmund on Saturday, Virkus had cancelled his pre-planned post-match interview with Sky Sports and instead opted to disappear through the mixed zone. This, naturally, led to all sorts of speculation and by the time Monday rolled around, most of the German press were speculating that Farke had indeed been sacked.
Virkus’ statement on Monday didn’t do a huge amount to change that narrative. Although the Gladbach boss denied that the former Norwich tactician had left the club, he also didn’t make much of an effort to rule out Farke leaving at the end of the season. "We want to play the season to the end now, even with this coach,” announced the Gladbach boss in an interview with the Rheinische Post. “There is no question of us parting ways with Daniel Farke in the next two weeks."
By most accounts, it seems as though Farke’s time at Gladbach may be coming to an unexpected end. And while a glance at the Bundesliga table may go some way to justifying such a decision, it could end up causing the Foals even more problems in the not-so-distant future.
