On the terraces: Köln fans' show of unity, anti-DFL protests continue and Stuttgart banner-gate in Bochum, as Hertha mourn Bernstein
In a new weekly Newsletter, Matt Ford will be keeping an eye on the action off the pitch in the Bundesliga and German football, from fan protests to finances.
The Rückrunde, the second half of the Bundesliga season, got underway last weekend and could end up being the longest one ever given the multitude of delays to matches. Not only does VAR continue to add additional time, continued protests against the DFL’s investor deal are also causing interruptions, but none as long as that caused by a problematically placed Stuttgart banner in Bochum. Elsewhere, Köln supporters welcomed the team bus in a show of unity in an increasingly disastrous situation, while Hertha BSC mourned the tragic passing of club president Kay Bernstein.
Matt Ford’s first newsletter for Gegenpressing was made available for all subscribers last week, so readers can get a good idea of what he’ll be covering in German football this year. If you like what you see, please consider taking out a paid subscription.
