The Bundesliga may have kicked off last weekend, but for half of the league's fan bases, match day two was the first home game of the season. Including in Stuttgart, where, ahead of a first European campaign since 2012/13, VfB supporters had all the more reason to join the spectacular Karawane Cannstatt - an annual highlight in German fan culture. Bayern Munich supporters, on the other hand, have broken with tradition somewhat and announced some changes on the Südkurve. Meanwhile, the German government has revealed just how effective its additional security measures were during Euro 2024, prompting furious criticism from fan legal aid groups.

Matt Ford's "On the terraces" newsletter will continue to appear every week throughout the 2024/25 Bundesliga season. Last season, the newsletter featured exclusive and in-depth coverage of the Bundesliga's private equity plans and the political intrigues at VfB Stuttgart, among other things. If you like what you see, please consider taking out a paid subscription.
