On the terraces: Kaiserslautern ultras give Latin lesson, Stuttgart mock Frankfurt, Gladbach protest against RB, Hertha & KSC, Dortmund ultras against eBay
In a weekly Newsletter, Matt Ford keeps an eye on the action off the pitch in the Bundesliga and German football, explaining what’s going on from fan protests to finances.
Did anyone here do Latin at school? If so, we hope you paid attention because you're going to need it to decipher the spectacular choreography produced by 1. FC Kaiserslautern ultras this weekend. Elsewhere, an ability to at least read a bit of German might help you appreciate a rhyme produced by VfB Stuttgart ultras as they mocked their Eintracht Frankfurt counterparts, while Borussia Mönchengladbach's anti-Red Bull protests were slightly less highbrow. Finally, there were much more amicable scenes as Hertha BSC hosted their friends from Karlsruhe, while Borussia Dortmund ultras had a stern warning for fellow fans.
Matt Ford's "On the terraces" newsletter will continue to appear every week throughout the 2024/25 Bundesliga season. Last season, the newsletter featured exclusive and in-depth coverage of the Bundesliga's private equity plans and the political intrigues at VfB Stuttgart, among other things. If you like what you see, please consider taking out a paid subscription.
