Although we have surely missed some steps, that’s the Alphonso Davies contract negotiations in a nutshell. There haven’t been many contract negotiations in recent memory with more noise than the constant back-and-forth between Bayern Munich and Davies’ agency, ATG Management.

The salary will be between €15-20m depending on who you ask. Some finer financial details might depend on whether it will be a four or five-year deal. Either way, it is a significant package that, in its entirety, could reach €100m.

That seems like a big deal. But make no mistake, replacing Davies would have been even more expensive. Theo Hernández, who was linked as a potential Davies replacement, has a market value of €50m. It's hard to imagine AC Milan letting him go for any less, plus Hernández’s salary would have been just as much as what Davies demanded.
