Recently signed to a new contract until 2027, there is a good chance Joe Scally could be the new face of a Borussia Mönchengladbach side looking for a fresh identity after a disappointing 2022/23 season. “I mean, this club is great; we have the best fans in the whole league, an amazing stadium, amazing facilities, and all the guys here are great,” Scally said to Gegenpressing as part of a media roundtable this week.

Perhaps the only thing that hasn’t been amazing this year have been Gladbach’s results. The Foals will likely finish this season in the mushy middle, far removed from the relegation spots but also some ways off the bright lights of European football.

Despite Gladbach’s struggles, Scally committed to a new long-term deal with the Foals, rejecting a potential move to the Premier League. “They offered me a new contract, showing their trust in me for the next few years,” Scally said. “I just want to repay them for the trust that they put in me. For me, the main thing is to get games. I am playing in the Bundesliga, which, together with the Premier League and La Liga is the best league in the world.”

Playing time certainly played a big part in Scally’s decision to renew his contract. That playing time is also supposed to help the 20-year-old to cement his position with the US men’s national team. “I have that tournament circled in my calendar,” Scally said while also pointing out his disappointment for not featuring once for the USMNT at the 2022 FIFA World Cup. “I didn’t quite understand that,” Scally added.
