The contrast between Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund couldn’t have been more evident at the weekend. And, perhaps for the first time in 11 years, it was a contrast that favoured the team in black and yellow over their counterparts from Bavaria.
On Saturday, Thomas Tuchel’s dysfunctional side huffed and puffed against RB Leipzig, taking an early lead through Serge Gnabry only to ultimately run out of steam and ideas as their rivals eventually took advantage of their toothless performance and turned the game on its head.
Dortmund, meanwhile, took to the field against Augsburg the following day and while Edin Terzic’s side had to wait almost an hour for their first goal, a multi-pronged attack of numerous in-form forwards ultimately made short work of the task at hand.
One team looked lost without any clear goal threats, while the other forced through the initiative with an impressive list of attacking talents. And it’s that diverging contrast in fortunes in front of goal that now has Dortmund well placed to win this season’s Bundesliga title race.
