Harry Kane is now a part of Bundesliga folklore but his Beckham-esque strike wasn't one of a kind
Last weekend against Darmstadt, Harry Kane ensured his place in Bundesliga folklore for decades to come. But even though his goal was special, it wasn't one of a kind.
With his goal from the halfway line, Harry Kane stole all the headlines at the weekend. Moments after Kane scored the goal, various social media accounts posted the image of Kane striking the ball from the center circle and Darmstadt keeper Marcel Schuhen way out of position. That image and the goal itself will, without a doubt, become a major part of Bundesliga folklore.
The moment arrived as Bayern were up 4-0 against Darmstadt in what was an overall chaotic match. The first half saw three red cards but no goals. Bayern’s Joshua Kimmich, as well as Darmstadt’s Klaus Gjasula and Matej Maglica, were all dismissed within the first 45 minutes.
Then in the second half, with the extra space available, Bayern scored four quick goals. Kane (51’), Leroy Sané (56’ & 64’), and Jamal Musiala quickly demolished any hope by the Darmstadt supporters of a positive result in Munich. Indeed, it looked like a very routine Munich rout of a promoted Bundesliga side. But the fifth goal will pretty much ensure that this game will take a place in Bundesliga folklore.
