Germany have won a knockout stage game at a tournament for the first time since the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup in Russia. Die Nationalmannschaft beat Denmark 2-0 thanks to goals by Kai Havertz 1-0 (53’) and Jamal Musiala (68’) at a fully packed Westfalenstadion in Dortmund.

Although it was a clear result, Denmark made this the anticipated tricky fixture, pushing Germany all the way. The tasks will also not get easier as Germany will now play the winner of Spain vs. Georgia on Friday, July 5, at the MHPArena in Stuttgart. Here are three thoughts from Germany’s round-of-16 win over Denmark.
