Do Bayern Munich need Harry Kane?
Harry Kane has long been linked with a transfer to Bayern Munich. But the more important question is, do Bayern even need the English star striker?
Could Harry Kane join Bayern Munich next summer? It is a question that has kept the rumor mill going ever since the story first leaked last summer. Kane, such is the belief, would be the replacement for Robert Lewandowski, who left for Barcelona last summer, and the consolation prize for having missed out on Erling Haaland—the Norwegian, of course, joined Manchester City.
“[Kane] is very expensive,” Julian Nagelsmann said last summer during Bayern Munich’s tour in the United States. “He is strong with the ball, strong body. It could be possible, of course, at some point, but at that price, it is really tough. We will have to see what happens in the future.”
That quote made headlines, and a quick response by Tottenham boss Antonio Conte followed. “I’d never speak about players of other teams,” Conte said. “I don't know why Nagelsmann did that—I think it’s maybe bit disrespectful. The situation is very clear for Harry here at Tottenham: Kane’s an important part of our project.”
Publicly, the Bayern bosses around sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic and CEO Oliver Kahn were also unimpressed with Nagelsmann’s comments. But internally they agreed that Kane has been identified as the perfect no.9 for Bayern after Lewandowski’s departure.
Furthermore, Salihamidzic has been in contact with Kane’s agency CK66, which is operated by Kane’s brother Charlie Kane. Gegenpressing understands that although signing Kane could be difficult for Bayern, there is an open channel of communication, and should the English captain leave Tottenham, the German record champions will be the likely destination.
