DFB Pokal final: Big-game Eintracht Frankfurt not enough to contain RB Leipzig
It took 70 minutes but RB Leipzig finally managed to overwhelm a very hard working Frankfurt side. Here are three thoughts from Berlin.
RB Leipzig have beaten Eintracht Frankfurt 2-0 in Berlin to defend the DFB Pokal and win the 80th edition of the DFB Pokal final in front of 74,322 fans in the German capital. In what was mostly a tight affair in front of a frenetic crowd, Leipzig secured the title late thanks to goals by Christopher Nkunku (71’) and Dominik Szoboszlai (85’).
Eintracht Frankfurt fans turn the final into a home game
So much has been written about Eintracht Frankfurt fans already. But you cannot overstate the magnitude of their support for this club. Ahead of the DFB Pokal final, SGE supporters unveiled a massive three-part tifo with three impressive chapters. They also managed to completely boo out the Leipzig anthem and then created a level of noise seldom experience outside of the Waldstadion.
