Bayern Munich director of sport Max Eberl must feel like he is a star player these days. When the 50-year-old met with the press following Bayern’s 2-0 win over Wolfsburg last Sunday, it was like listening to an echo. While the Bayern boss was speaking to the media, an interview that Eberl had previously given to Sky was playing almost simultaneously on the monitors above our heads.

The message? The same repeatedly. “Of course, we would like to be further in our search,” Eberl said. “We are in talks. Not just with one candidate. And we want to find a new coach as quickly as possible.”

Usually, people speak behind closed doors. You either reach an agreement or don’t, and you go separate ways.”

Eberl delivered a similar message in the mixed zone the previous week following Bayern’s 3-1 defeat to VfB Stuttgart. This message was geared to Unai Emery, Roberto De Zerbi, and Ralf Rangnick.
