Clinical Dortmund spoil Alonso's Leverkusen farewell to keep Champions League hopes alive
Borussia Dortmund's Champions League hopes are very much alive after Nico Kovac's team spoiled Xabi Alonso's Bayer Leverkusen farewell with a thumping win.
"Europapokal! Europapokal!" chanted the Borussia Dortmund supporters in the away end at the BayArena after their team kept their hopes of qualification for a "European Cup" alive with a 4-2 win over Bayer Leverkusen.
Precisely which European competition it will be for Niko Kovac's side, however, will be decided on the final day.
A place in the Europa League is as good as secure (barring an unlikely five-goal swing in favour of Mainz 05) but now, after Eintracht Frankfurt were held to a 2-2 draw by FC St. Pauli, BVB incredibly have Champions League qualification in their own hands.
