While RB Leipzig may have been celebrating into the small hours of Sunday morning, following their impressive 3-0 win over Bayern Munich in the German Super Cup, another club that may have raised a glass - albeit in secret - to the Saxony success would have been Borussia Dortmund. 

At a bustling Allianz Arena, Marco Rose’s side laid bare the work that still needs to be done to this Thomas Tuchel team in order to get them fighting fit ahead of the new Bundesliga campaign. All while succeeding in ensuring that the spotlight remained firmly focused on Bayern and their troubles on and off the pitch. 

Indeed, this summer transfer window has been a montage of one Bayern transfer saga followed by another, only briefly interrupted by the sheer scale of Leipzig’s turnover of players in and out of the squad. And all the while Edin Terzic’s Dortmund side have happily got on with the important matter of making sure they improve on last season and finally wrestle the Bundesliga from Bayern’s weakening grip.
