Bundesliga: 18 Clubs - 18 Thoughts Ahead Of Matchday One
This is the first incarnation of the Bundesliga 18 clubs - 18 thoughts newsletter. This month we are taking a closer look at key news ahead of matchday One.
It is almost here. The Bundesliga will return on Friday when Eintracht Frankfurt host Bayern Munich at the Deutsche Bank Park. With just one day to go, this week’s newsletter will introduce a new feature: a monthly article looking at all 18 clubs and 18 accompanying thoughts. This blog is a bit like a soapbox, a mix of breaking news and thoughts on every club. So let’s get started!
Eintracht Frankfurt
First round DFB Pokal hurdle taken, Mario Götze comeback in German football, Daichi Kamada and Filip Kostić in the starting XI. On paper, pretty good, especially as the latter two are linked with transfers away from Frankfurt. Kostić is contemplating an offer from West Ham United. Instead, the Eagles hope that the prospect of Champions League football will convince the Serbian winger to stay. For now, a decision remains open.
Bayern Munich

Head coach Julian Nagelsmann described the talent as world-class. “He is one of the best German players at the moment,” CEO Oliver Kahn said after the DFL Supercup victory against RB Leipzig. In his current form, Musiala has to start every game. That, in turn, could create a headache for Nagelsmann as it would leave both Kingsley Coman and Leroy Sané on the bench —Thomas Müller always plays. Coaches love having those sorts of problems but will the superstars accept a more marginal role this season while keeping the peace in the dressing room?
