Borussia Dortmund: Are Passion And Authenticity Enough To Close The Gap To Bayern?
Gegenpressing was on location for the Revierderby and spoke to Borussia Dortmund managing director Carsten Cramer about growing the club internationally and closing the gap to Bayern Munich.
What is passion, and how can it be quantified? And more importantly, how can it be packaged and sold to a consumer? That is one of the major questions when it comes to selling the Bundesliga brand to a foreign market, especially in the United States, where the German first division has suffered from Bayern Munich’s dominance.
Raising that question after a weekend in which Bayern Munich have not won their fourth Bundesliga game in a row and Dortmund have won the Revierderby against Schalke in emotional fashion might seem odd. But the season is still young, and there is still plenty of time for Bayern to walk away with the title.
That could be the worst case scenario for a league that wants to show that it is more than just Bayern. But there is hope that selling the Bundesliga brand could work even if Bayern win another league title—the eleventh in a row.
