Bayer Leverkusen 3-0 Bayern Munich: Xabi Alonso’s Werkself go five points clear at the top of the Bundesliga
Leverkusen, Germany - Bayern Munich were dismantled on Saturday evening, the perennial Bundesliga champions thoroughly swamped by a Bayer Leverkusen team who, after extending their lead at the top of the table to five points with a 3-0 win, must now be considered champions-elect. Xabi Alonso’s side forced Bayern into an error-strewn first half and capitalised courtesy of Bayern loanee Josip Stanisic mid-way through the half. After Thomas Tuchel inexplicably made no changes at half-time, the Werkself punished Bayern again as Alejandro Grimaldo played a neat one-two with Nathan Tella before firing past Manuel Neuer in front of a raucous Nordkurve. When Jeremie Frimpong fired the third into an empty net in the 95th minute, there was no stopping the carnival party as the stadium bounced and danced to the Bayer beat. Perhaps for the first time this season, Leverkusen believe they can do it.
