The news created shockwaves on Friday afternoon. "RB Leipzig have relieved Max Eberl of his duties with immediate effect,” a statement on the Leipzig’s homepage read. “His failure to commit to the club has led to us making this decision. It has nothing to do with the squad’s rebuild or results on the pitch. Sporting director Rouven Schröder will take over. We would like to thank Max for his work and wish him all the best for the future.”

Eberl’s sacking comes on the tail end of a news report published by Bild earlier this week. Eberl to Bayern Munich is likely, the report read. Long-term Bayern boss Uli Hoeneß, who has been lobbying for the move dating all the way back to when Eberl was the sporting director at Gladbach, was going to use his influence to have the supervisory board approve the move, the tabloid stated.

The report then added that Leipzig would be happy to allow Eberl to leave as they had already found a replacement in the form of sporting director Schröder. The report then added that Leipzig would want a compensation fee and that Eberl would move to Bayern in the spring of 2024.
